Help! My Neighbors are Toxic Waste!

Poster series // booklet // Packaging

Introducing ‘Help! My Neighbors are Toxic Waste,’ a campaign with a dual mission: to educate the public about the seriousness of toxic waste dumps and to raise awareness about their prevalence. This initiative also highlights the adverse health effects experienced by those living in close proximity to these hazardous sites.

The campaign’s design draws inspiration from the eerie charm of 1950s horror comics, known for using monsters as cautionary tales. This chosen aesthetic serves as the medium for delivering the message through a series of posters, a booklet, and a package design.

Information to die for!

The design of the informational booklets pays homage to cover layouts from the same comic books this campaign takes its inspiration from. The blocks of text and illustrations within the booklet are structured like a comic book to keep consistent with the theme.

The horror!

A poster series was designed to hang up around the neighborhood. Like the booklet, it was illustrated in a way that replicates the appearance of a 1950s comic book by using overlapping cyan, magenta, yellow, and black brushes to mimic the dot patterns characteristic of vintage comic printing. This technique infuses the designs with yellows, reds, and greens. Artificial comic paper texture and aging effects were applied to lend an authentic 1950s feel.

Thirsty?

The package design is a 3D render featuring a fictional beverage, intended for distribution at events promoting the toxic waste dump cause. The beverage container employs irony by challenging individuals to take a sip, all the while displaying an informative tag that conveys essential facts about the detrimental impact of toxic waste on drinking water.
